Are Mazda's good cars?

I myself have a Mazda 3, and i love it. But i do have some complaints for Mazda as well. This is my first car, and my family has mostly Nissans, so i tend to compare Nissan to Mazda, and i have to say, that most mazda's do NOT have good pickup or engines. Although, they are cute cars if you are just using it in your town or city. I love my car, it fits perfectly with my lifestyle and its small enough to fit just me. it handles easy, and when i got mine, (used, 25k miles on it) it had a pretty good engine in it, and an awesome standard stereo. overall, they're a GREAT first car.

Are they pretty cheap?
I plan on buying one for my first car ((I'm 17))
And I think that they are really cute lol.
