Today I was at Macy's and there's always a guy with an orange bucket outside ringing a bell for the salvation army. I always wanted to donate and this time I had some spare change with me, so I went and put it in the bucket. The man ringing the bell thanked me with a very heavy accent, and I curiously checked the logo on the apron he was wearing. Turns out he was ringing bells for the Holocaust museum! I felt like I was tricked into donating since its always the salvation army bucket. I am Catholic and originally from Germany so I didn't really want to help this man. I asked for my money back and he refused to give it back, so I called the mall security and they made him give it back.
Anyways, I was just wondering if religious people are allowed to ring bells for their charities or if it's against some law about religion? I felt like he was advertising me to become a Jew. Is this okay? It was very uncomfortable for me, since I'm a devout Catholic. What do you guys think? Has this ever happened to you? Should I report him if I see him again?
