Are huge words necessary in poetry?

I've been reading alot of poems as of late on here, and noticed that people use not only complex words, but really big words, whereas I use small, simple, familiar words. Would my writing improve if I tried using more complex or big words? I know that my writings, or at least some of them, are good, but I'm wondering if using better vocabulary might help.

(sorry if this didn't make much sense, I have trouble with comprehension and saying right out what I mean)
 
Depends... who is the poem meant to be appealing to the list is huge
children,teens or adults, if teens i would say it would be best to use intermediette words so you don't sound like your trying to hard like the answerer bove said if its adults thn well the sky's the limit :)
