Are GMC and Chevy engines the same?

yes, they're the exact same underneath the body, only thing different is the emblems and front grilles and headlights, you can actually take the front fenders, grille, headlights and bumper off one of them and bolt them right on the other, hell you can even put those parts off a cadillac escalade and put it on a GMC or chevy truck/suv, just like ford and mercury, or dodge and plymouth
 
I was about to install a sbc chevy engine, and i was wondering if GMC engines are the same and if i can just install GMC instead of the sbc.
Also, will a chevy transmission work on a GMC motor?
 
actually devgru seem like the stupid one because gmc and chevy are both GM as well as pontiac, buick, hummer, saturn, Saab, Cadillac but to answer your question they both take the same engine and transmissions. They used to have their own motor spec's but in the early 80's they all just became GM engines and transmissions.
 
yeah for the most part, however don't forget to check the model, some are like the 5.4 where the next version is the 6.0. Something stupid like that can really mess up a quick fix. Just something to remember.
