are ford automatics any good?

hi can anyone help i have been told that ford automatics arnt very good and end up dead, has anyone or know any one that has had problems with ford autimatics, it would be a great help cos i have my eye on one. thanks in advance
this is a ford escort 1996
 
i dont belive in automatics cuas they suck!!! bad fuel economy they slower and harder to work on.... however i have owned a couple before and havent had any problems... 1983 van with monster power bein cramed through tranny.... lil bas tard is holdin out pretty da mn good ehhh!!!
 
my grandad had one on mobility a ford fiesta 04and the 06 models he never had any problems with the transmission but he did have a problem with the balencing of the front tyres, also being a mechanic i have worked on many automatics and the fords as a rule dont come in with automatic problems older cars are rust and engine knocking problems i would recommend a automatic but my said preference on any car would be a manual but each to there own preference
 
My 1999 Explorer went through 3 transmissions before it had 60,000 miles on it.
My 2002 Super Duty has 170,000 miles on it and has had no transmission problems.

The older ford automatics are not very reliable, but the newer ones are not too bad.
 
I have a Ford Focus 1.6 automatic which is almost 6 years old and have had no problems at all. Now done 65,000 kl ms
