Is it just me, or does anybody else find that working with financial aid officers at schools takes a considerably long time? I've gone to two different colleges now and it seems that when it comes to needing financial help, it takes FOREVER. It takes 1-3 weeks per step of the process. I realize that there are A LOT of kids needing financial aid, but it just seems that with e-mail, fax, and every thing else, it shoud be taking a lot quicker than this.

I do not have that problem at my school. Some parts of the process do take longer than others, but my school's website is fairly good about letting us know when to expect the next step to be ready. I think your school's response time is going to depend on: the number of advisors available (may be less this year due to budget tightening), the number of people applying (may be more this year due to recession) & how complicated their situations are, and when you applied - the earlier the better. I know it takes a lot of patience. Good luck!
