im looking at a 2000 Dodge Avenger with about 70,000 miles on it... the car itself is in mint condition. but im just worried about the reliability, since i have never owned one of these cars, nor have i known anyone that has own the car... im VERY skeptical about purchasing it.

are theses good, reliable cars? anything i should know about them?

thank you.

The 2000 Avenger is very closely related to the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

If for any reason you would not buy an Eclipse, don't buy the Avenger.

Like the Eclipse it is based on a the Mitsubishi Galant platform. Unlike the Eclipse, normal sized people can be wedged into the back seat for short periods of time.

The 6G73 V6 is an okay engine. Not extraordinary in any way. Probably just marginally better than the Volkswagen VR6, marginally worse than the Mazda 626/Ford Probe Mazda KL engine.

Transmission is a weak spot. Hopefully it's been serviced regularly with the right fluid.

Reliability should be similar to the Mitsubishi Galant.

With 70,000 miles on it I would recommend changing the timing belt right away. Also change the water pump while you are doing the timing belt as it is driven by the timing belt.
