Are court summons issued if cops are not involved?

I was caught shoplifting for $4.17 worth of merchandise. Cops not notified, but my info was taken. The employee told me I would recieve something in the mail and have to pay around $75. Does this sound like I will be summoned to court or just issued a bill from the store (Duane Reade)? Also, will this go on a criminal record?
