There are plenty of pedophiles in the world; the difference and the offensive thing about the priests is that the bishops knew and concealed the evidences. Non-priests pedophiles did not have a whole organization to buy or coerce the victim's family silence.
That is the worst aspect of the whole thing, which let them carry on victimizing more people.
