Are carburetors easy to install on a Chevy V8?

I've got a El Camino with a mild 350 that has a stock 2bbl carburetor. It's a fine street motor but I want to pick up about 30hp and a lot more top end with a 4bbl. If I bought a used Holley or Edelbrock carburetor, what should I look for and are they easy to install? What steps are involved?
