My first showcase for my ballroom dance class is coming up quickly. We finally finished the choreography for the showcase I'm performing - which ends with a lift. I've never been in ballet - so the lifts are a completely new experience for me.
To do the lift, I come in from the side and transition into an arabesque position - I believe it is considered to be a low arabesque position - after which the man picks me up. I know this is probably the easiest arabesque - but I am having trouble with getting into the position as quickly as I need to. If I focus on getting into the right position - I can balance perfectly fine if I start from the place that I am holding the arabesque. However, I am not sure how to successfully balance myself when I turn and have to get into the arabesque position properly within a second or two. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to quickly get into a proper arabesque position - and still keeping on balance? Also - are there any particular things I should pay attention to, technique wise, with an arabesque - ballroom style?
Thank you!
