AR vs Shotgun for home defense?

I'm just interested in what everyone uses. my firearms collection is slowly progressing and as of now, my HD weapon is a 20g mossberg 500 with buckshot. my prefered weapon would be a remington 870 12g with 00 buckshot.

but i have heard more than a few people say they prefer an AR15 to a shotty.

so what do you use?
 
1. There is no sound more universally recognized by, and terrifying to, a home invader than the ratcheting noise of a round being chambered in a pump-action shotgun.

2. With a shotgun, aiming anywhere near your target is good enough to put at least a couple pieces of buckshot into him. With a rifle, you need to exactly hit your target.

3. Buckshot's probably going to get imbedded in the wall behind your bad guy, thus not being a further danger to others in or nearby the house. A bullet from an AR will go through your bad guy, through the wall behind him, and probably through any poor SOB who happens to be standing in the next room but in line with your shot.

So: shotgun, all the way.
