Apps for HTC Desire? ...New cellphone?

I'm gonna buy a new phone so yeah. I first thought of an iPhone but Im not gonna use the phone too much so I don't wanna spend too much money in it.

I thought about HTC and HTC Desire...

Does the HTC phones have apps like iphone/ipads?
And, is it the same apps? Does the same apps work for both? Or is it way more apps for iphone/ipad than htc?
