Approximately how much would it cost (£) to fix broken bicycle gears?

The bit at the top by the handlebars, where you turn it to change gears, is broken on one side so I have to change them manually all the time. the other side is working fine. Does anyone have any idea of approx how much it would cost to get fixed? Thank you.
