GADGET DESIGNER Apple might be making its Garageband app available by default on iOS.
Mac site Macrumours noticed the change to Apple's list of built-in apps for the iPhone 5S and was first to spot Garageband.
"Garageband is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional Garageband instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase," was the text on display.
We say was, because it is now gone. In its place is nothing. We have asked Apple what is going on with the app, and are waiting for a response.
Garageband does not appear in Apple's list of free, add-on apps either. It is on the iTunes store in the UK with a £2.99 price though.
The rumour is that Apple will make the app a freemium product. This means this it will be free to download, but will incur charges if more features are added.
This could extend to adding musical instruments, a bassoon for example, or any similar kind of virtual gewgawery.
Also likely to appear as standard apps, say a range of reports, are other so-called "iLife" apps iPhoto and iMovie.
Apple brought Garageband to iDevices in late 2011. "Garageband on Ipad has been a big hit and we think customers will love using it on their Iphone or Ipod touch," said Philip Schiller, Apple SVP of worldwide product marketing.
"The innovative multi-touch interface combined with smart instruments makes it easy to create great sounding music, even if you've never studied music or played an instrument before."
Garageband has been priced at £2.99 ever since. µ
