Apple account sign up fee?

Okay so today I got a new 3g IpodTouch since my sister got my Ipod nano stolen, and I created an account. I was charged a dollar.... is this going to add up? Because I used a pre-paid gift crad from my brithday a month ago...... If someone could help me clear this up, it'll be muy bueno!

is it possible to stop it from charging?
also if you guy/girls could correct any misspelling that would be great XD
