For the past few months rumors were circulating in tech arena that Apple will be launching a budget version of iPhone. This rumor proved to be dead right when on 10[SUP]th[/SUP] of September Apple launched iPhone 5C along with its dearer sibling iPhone 5S. I was expecting that this phone would be quite cheap and would fulfill the iPhone desires of developing world, especially students. But Apple disappointed me. It priced the phone at 549$ (or around 36,000 INR) and this certainly cannot be called a budget phone it's only cheaper than iPhone 5S.
iPhone 5C is exactly iPhone 5 in a plastic back. It has the same camera, same processor, same screen, same network support, same apps in an inferior plastic shell. Every year Apple used to launch a new version of iPhone and reduce the price of existing model by 100$. (For example when Apple launched iPhone 5 was launched it reduced the price of 4S by 100S to 549$). So by same the logic, on the launch of iPhone 5S price of iPhone 5 should have been dropped by 100$. But Apple stopped the production of iPhone 5 and instead introduced the iPhone 5C. At same price point iPhone 5 has a better and more premium built quality than iPhone 5C and would have been a better deal than it. I don't know why Apple did this. (Apple has also reserved the "premium" design of iPhone 5 for iPhone 5S).
This would have been have been a better deal if this mobile would have been priced around 400$ (25,000 INR). At current price point it simply makes no sense to buy 5C when a far superior iPhone 5S costs just a 100 dollars (6,300 INR) more.
Though at this event Apple did lessen the expense of some of its applications. It reduced the price of iLife and iWork apps to zero. Yes you read it right Apple made the software worth Rupees 2190 INR completely free of cost. iLife and iWork includes Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie and iPhoto apps. Announcing this news Apple's CEO Tim Cook said that "No other platform has any apps like these. We think that all iOS devices are made even better with these apps, and almost all of our customers want these apps".
Earlier many were mocking Apple and were saying "C" in iPhone 5C stood for "cheap" but in the end Apple meant exactly the opposite.
