I am young and in good shape. would it be possible for me to hike the Appalachian trail in 4 months. GA to ME

One of my Navy buddies did it when he was 18, and said it was the best thing that he ever did. Do your research on shoes, camping equipment, etc, and don't take too much with you!

Good luck!

4 months? I doubt it. Last time I checked the record was either 5 or 6 months, I believe the record is at 6 or just under 6 months, and I believe that was an aided thru-hike.

It is definitely recommended that you do it from South to North, most successful thru hike are done in that direction. If you are in good shape, pack light, have some woods sense (sorta like common sense but for the woods), and know what you are doing I would give it at least 6 months, and thats hiking at a good pace almost everyday. The key for long distance hikes like that is to hike an hour before sunrise and an hour after sunset, which is no problem if your pack is light.

Check out this site for packing light, he`s the father of ultra-light backpacking. I`m not saying you need to go ultra-light but he has some great tips.
