The Aztecs and Incas were similar in their ideas of religion and social structure, but differed in their economies and location. The aztecs were a society that ruled in central Mexico from the 14th century until the 16th century. The Incas were a society in Peru that ruled from the 13th century until the late 16th century.
They were very similar in their religion because both societies believed in human sacrifice. Human sacrifice is the act of killing human beings as part of a religious ritual. The reason they performed human sacrifice was because they believed this was the best way to please their gods. They thought this was necessary because if they did it, then in return they would receive food. The Aztecs would make sacrifices to Huitzilopochtli and the Incas would make sacrifices to the Sun.
Another similarity between the two societies was their social structures. Both of the societies had social classes. Both empires consisted of a high class and lower class. The Aztecs social structure consisted of Nobles (high class) and Commoners (low class), while the Inca social structure consisted of the Sapa Inca (highest), then a royalty class, followed by the noble class, and finally the Allyu (common people.) Social classes have always been a part of the world and helped distinct people from each other.
A main difference between the Aztecs and Incas was their economic structure. The currency of the Aztec society was cocoa beans, while the Incas did not have a currency. Also, the Aztecs participated in long distance trade and the Incas did not. This was mainly because the Aztecs had open land to trade. This was harder for the Incas because they lived in highlands. Both societies viewed merchants differently, too. The Aztecs believed merchants should be higher in class because they made Tenochtitlan a wealthier city. However, Incas were not economically wealthy. They believed that fine goods should be reserved for rulers and aristocrats. It is surprising that the Aztecs ruled a less amount of time than the Incas because the Aztecs were the ones with the wealth and influence.

Both societies started out in clan-based systems, but changed over time. The Aztecs formed into an aristocracy with a supreme ruler. The Incas were split into four sections which were ruled by governors. The Aztecs were based on an elected leader, while the Incas were based on hereditary chiefs to run the government. This is a vast difference between the Aztecs and the Incas.
