--- Im wondering how to approach an APUSH free response question in order to recieve the highest score.
--- Generally how many total paragraphs should there be? 3 body, or more?
---Any experienced suggestions from an AP student?

---If it helps, im trying to answer this prompt, any ideas? :
Analyze the extent to which religious freedom existed in the British North American colonies prior to 1700.

Thanks

3 body is the most I ever wrote, I usually only wrote 2 body. The only time i used 3 is if they were looking for groups of 3 (political, economic, social themes.) To approach that specific question, i would point out specific examples of how they did have religious freedom, and how they had religious freedom to a small extent, and explain the reasons for it. (sorry my content is rusty, took the class a couple years ago, so i can't help with specific examples) As far as the length goes though, I usually only wrote 2 body paragrphs for APUSH essays, 3 max. As long as your paragraphs have some length, and solid analysis within the paragraphs, the quantity of paragraphs isn't a huge deal I don't think.

Time wouldn't always allow 3 body paragraphs, but I'm pretty sure on the actual exam I wrote 3. As long as you outline what you want to say in the introduction (graders love straight-forward introductions) and you stick to those points, you'll get a fine grade if you make enough sense. My main suggestion is to manage your time well. You don't have much time per FRQ, so make your time count.

Ha, was that question on the exam this year? I took it, and I remember something similar, but I must have answered a different one.
