AP Art History Course in Highschool?

I'm a Sophomore in high school, and I have known ever since 3rd grade that I've wanted to get an art degree and ever since 7th grade, I've wanted to become an animator. I'm taking a sketching class, and I plan for Junior year to take AP Art, then for Senior year, IB Art.

At the same time I'm taking Honors English and AP Euro History (CP Math and Science) all good grades (A's and High B's) and I'm contemplating whether or not I should take AP Art History.

My friends (who are very smart) were taking it in the beginning, and quit. They said it was too much homework load, and just the tests were impossible.

However, they always tell me, that I'm smart, and that it will really look good on college apps. since I want to major in art.

I just don't know if I'll be able to pass that class though! I'm seriously not THAT good at history and my friends said it's ALL memorization - dates especially. And I'm just not into that type of stuff, I'd rather just take it in college than in high school and end up failing it anyways.

Is AP Art History REALLY that amazing to colleges for a person that wants to major in art? I'm just not feeling like it's the right class for me...
