AP American History?Advise?

You will learn more in depth about the beginning of our country. You will go into detail the constitution and poor over the founding fathers. It is a great class. If you think you need to do anything I would read the constitution and look at the book Great American Documents. It is an overview of certain topics that will be covered. I would also read a little about the Lincoln assassination. If you know nothing about the civil war I would read a little about it too. Don't worry, it will not be something like a math class where you have to know something first. A basic background is good, however if you grew up in the country and have ever taken a basic history class, even in junior high, you will be fine. Just be prepared to write a few papers and to pay attention.

As I just finished AP US, I can definitely see where you are coming from to want to do your best to prepare. Throughout the year, you will be most concentrated on the time period from about 1800-1950, so I would begin to read up on those time periods. Go out and invest in an AP US book - i would suggest the Kaplen one - it gives chapter self quizzes and really helps analyze each time period. Begin the read through the beginning at least, and you will be ahead of the game in your class. One thing I can definitely recommend if just find article written during different time periods, and watch the history channel! A lot of it is actually really interesting, and you will learn a ton!
