...relations? First of all Elvis NEVER said that the only thing that NE9ROS are good for were to buy his records and to shine his shoes.
Jet Magazine, A major African American Publication, will be the first to testify to the truth that it was a lie made up about Elvis. Jet interviewed Elvis in 1957 on the set of Jailhouse Rock and learned how sincere Elvis was about wanting to make sure that the rumor was squashed by, number one, even having a Black publication on the set back in the segregated times of 1957 and by telling them that if you ask anyone who knows him, black or white, they would tell you that he would never say something like that. Jet confirmed that the smaller publication which was owned by Jet did not investigate the claim and came to find out that Elvis wasn't even in the city or state of Boston Mass the day he was to supposed to have made the comment there. They also could not confirm if he said it in an interview or to an audience.
It's important to note that Elvis was not only friends with many African American entertainers but some who were very proud black individuals and known for not putting up with any racial crap.
The primary two being James Brown and Muhammad Ali.
James Brown said of Elvis "He wasn't just a friend he was my brother, I loved him, the last time I saw Elvis alive we sang (An old Gospel) song together at Graceland. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Heaven one day"
James Brown was the first to arrive at Elvis funeral and sat alone with Elvis body after the services?
Elvis stayed with Muhammad Ali at Ali's training facility and when Ali visited Graceland Elvis presented him with the robe that he hd made for Ali that read "People's Choice"
Ali said of him "Elvis was a very dear friend of mine, he was one of the most humble men I've ever known"
How many racist have blacks, let alone black activist come in to their homes and present them with gifts and have them come to their funeral early and leave late?
Elvis also sat bed side and Jackie Wilson's Coma and years earlier gave Wilson and autographed picture that read "Friend for Life"
He bought Sammie Davis Jr a Sapphire ring and gave him front row seats to his Vegas shows.
he use to hang out with B.B. King on Beal Street in Memphis when e was 21 as well as with photographer Ernest Withers who was an African American as well who said of Elvis 'Calling Elvis a racist is an insult to us all. he did more for Civil Rights than most realize"
He goes on to tell the story of a media type asking Elvis why he refers to Whithers as "Mister Whiters" when he's just a "Barbecue BOY" Elvis responded "Because he's a Man!"
There are many photos of Elvis with B. B. King, Mahala Jackson, Jackie WIlson, Muhammad Ali, James Brown, Brook Benton, Sammie Davis Jr.and more.
Then consider that Elvis bought his cook, who was black her own house and employed multiple African Americans as part of his shows and recordings.
His back up girl group the Sweet Inspirations were three Black Females who all hung out with Elvis along with their husbands after hours.
They have said of Elvis that he loved them regardless of color and that he threatened to cancel an entire show in Vegas when the hotel hosting the show refused to let the girls stay at the hotel.
Elvis said "No Sweets no Show"
Elvis recorded the songs In the Ghetto which is about the poverty that too many African American children face daily and how it is up to the more fortunate to help them.
He recorded If I Can Dream which is about all people being equal and focuses on the Social Injustices of the day and was Elvis response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Knowing the real Elvis and his love and respect for black music read some of the quotes about Elvis by African Americans as far as his music went.
"Elvis and I are the only two American originals, there will never be another like that Soul Brother"
James Brown
"Many believe that Elvis stole the black man's music when in fact most black solo entertainers copied their stage mannerisms from Elvis" Jackie Wilson
"Elvis was an integrator, Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn't let black music through. Elvis opened the door" Little Richard
"Elvis was a phenomenal talent, his delivery and way of looking at a song were unique, had he lived there would have been no end to his inventiveness" B. B. King
"On a scale of one to ten I'd rate Elvis and Eleven" Sammie Davis Jr.
"Elvis? He was the best there ever was or ever will be" Chuck Berry
"Elvis was a giant and he influenced everyone in the business" Issac Hayes
"Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach, he broke the ice for all of us. Without Elvis I don't know where any of us would be" Al Green
