.. on ITV now? It stars Reese Witherspoon, shocking thing is, she was actually good before she became "famous" and starred in terrible films like Legally Blonde etc.

i thought this film was awful! i was so looking forward to it, and was annoyed last time i missed it a few weeks back on ITV 2 (or 3 or 4, not sure which), and even added it to my rental list.
one of the worst films ive seen this year (and ive seen close to 200)

i hated it on too many levels. when i read up on it on wiki last night, the book just sounded so much better, with the way things were resolved.
the characters were all totally unlikeable, and it was way too bleak.
In the end, the point they make is that successful people trample on everyone and end up lonely (which i thought was a valid point in many ways) but then it went on to imply that everyone else who may seem happy with their lives, is basically just a loser. like the main character was happy but still shown a loser. I just didnt get the point the director was trying to make, cos in the end no one wins. It was just ehhh.

Apart from that, i didnt find it very funny, and some of the acting was really bad.

I really wanted to like it, but i just couldnt.
The only other film i remember feeling this about recently was Fargo, although its a better film than this.

I too hate the film.

I dislike the characters, all of which seem played by the wrong type of actors. As Sly so excellently points out, the film isn't so much 'dark' as it is 'overly bleak' - or perhaps, 'bleak for bleak's sake'. Weak, grasping narrative and lacks any kind of compelling element. It was a real struggle to finish it :(

I feel much the same about this as I do 'Rushmore', although the actors suit the characters well in that (especially Jason Schwartzman).
