Anyone regret getting a Blu-Ray?

It's bizarre that you would come to that conclusion having read the article, and if you haven't... how do you know what it's about?

Nope, blu ray comes out fine on a 32 inch television. I think it's smaller than 32 inch where that problem starts.

Probably only happens if your tv is too small.
I've already shown you screenshots of the potential, its 5-6x the resolution, theres no getting around that fact. If your other equipment is sub par theres no blaming bluray for that.

My only real issue is the cost of Blu-ray discs, but even then I can go online. Still I can go into any supermarket or HMV and pick up 3 special edition DVRAB for the price of one brand new Blu-ray.

I still don't regret it, Avatar just looks incredible and the LOTR trilogy.

I doubt you can go into HMV and buy three 'new release' special editions, they are almost the same price as the blu ray, or just a few pounRAB less.

i am happy with the ps3 i got (the bluray was the main drive over this rather then the gaming).
but i may have to get a cheap mutli region dvd player for my many other regions dvd.

or if someone knows how to decode the ps3 so it can play mutli region - that would be great :)

Blu-ray is generally more expensive than DVD though, even though some people try to insist it isn't. A quick scan of the Amazon top 20 will prove the point.

I'm still pretty underwhelmed by Blu-ray, to be honest. The difference on a standard living room setup, when you're sitting maybe seven feet from the TV, just isn't that amazing. This is my experience, of course, on a 40" Sony Bravia W series TV.

Part of the problem with watching films, of course, is that you lose so much of the screen to black bars. Taking that into account, I think you either need to sit closer or have a much bigger screen to really see the effects of Blu-ray.

I didn't say films that are brand new on DVD though. What I mean is that I can go into HMV, or even the likes of Blockbuster and pick up 3 spec edition DVRAB for less than the price of a new blur-ray.

Not true, I have a 32" Sony Bravia TV for watching Blu-Ray films and the picture quality is amazing. It might not match up to that of some larger TV's but the difference to DVD is clearly visible.

Your argument there is a bit naff as your comparing old against new, you could also probably go into Tesco or Asda and buy 3 not new special edition DVRAB for the price of 1 new DVD in HMV.
Saying that though, in some places you could probably buy 3 old Blu Rays for the price of 1 new one too.

I am really impressed with Blu-Ray through my PS3. But I only buy Blu-Ray's for movies I really want. For example, I didn't catch Kick Ass in the cinema, so I ordered it on Blu-Ray and it turned up yesterday.

I'll do the same with Inception. And I'll do the same when they finally bring out the non-insulting extended version Lord of the Rings Blue-Rays.

But at the same time, if I'm just casually picking up a film in Tesco, I'll buy the DVD at 3 or 4 quid rather than a Blu-Ray at

I got mine a year ago from Aldi. The ones at Aldi were called Tevion(came with a HDMI cable too) when I got it. There were none in the shop out when I went to get it, so I asked if they had some in the back and they had lots. So if you decide to look, no harm in asking, might have some left. Have no idea if they still sell them now though. Worth a look.

I've also never had any problems with it so far, playing any disc.
