Anyone looking to get the new G1

Also since when did TMO get the 4.5 for the Pearl? I didn't see that.

@MarvinColemen so you have the 4.5 and are not impressed with the G1 anymore? Why is that?

I haven't downloaded the new 4.5 yet (will update in 2 hours).the main reasons I wanted the G1, in my case-streaming video and audio, is fulfilled in the new OS for my Curve (FREE)

I still may get the G1, but not until I see what the new OS does. Since we employees don't have the G1 available, I. Will have to wait anyway.

I love my G1 already. I hope it stays that way, but it is SOOO much more fun and functional than any Blackberry. I use all the Google apps so for me it works great.

I noticed something REALLY cool on the G1.

If you go into Contacts and then select to edit a contact scroll down all the way to the bottom. Right above where you save there is a check box that will let you have that person sent directly to voicemail every time. LOL!!! I'm LOVING this phone!!!

Hmmm, the G1 is looking good. Im going to pick one up later this week and give it a fair try, i really like the past berry's I've owned so I'm reluctant. There were a few things about the iphone that caught my eye, but the phone overall was just not a smart phone my my eyes. The G1 seems to combine the best experiences I've had with an iphone and put it in a smart phone making for a brilliant combination IMO.

While playing with the G1 in-store the 'chin' to the right of the keyboard was awquard but ill give it the 14 days to see if i can get used to it. Another point that bothers the hell out of me before i even own it is the lack of a standard headphone jack. Granted, my pearl does not have one either, but a big flaw IMHO.

The other point that i wanted to make, but correct after i get the phone is the matter of modem tethering. It does not seem to support this by default, but there is a work around that i read about using the SDK and some code to make it work. I'm not sure that you would want to do this all the time though because I've heard that there will be a 1GB data limit. I hope after Tmo gets their 3G network completely together they can bump that up some...

Ill try and check back after i play with it for a while.

Yep, when I was talking to the tmo rep today (bought the G1 today) he informed me that they removed it.

I've only had it for aa few hours, but is quite fun so far.

I'm enjoying mine. However it's important to note that it's not a BB replacement for me, but a fun "other" phone to explore with. I will be selling mine soon, as the G2 is right around the corner and has many improvements to the hardware itself, as well as the OS.

Ok, so i have used it for a few days and i like it enough to keep it.

First, the hardware-
the phone has a nice weight to it, its not heavy but also dosent feel like a cheap plastic toy. The way the screen slides is nice, it has a curve to the motion, it isnt just straight. one major anoyance tho, when the screen is closed and you push on it semi-hard, it creakes. ive talked to others and this seems to be common is various degrees. mine isnt too loud, but sounds like an old hardwood floor when i push on it. its personal to you ans depends on the phone hoe much it will bother you.

the five line keyboard is nice. it has everything youll need easy to get to. i mentioned the "chin" before, and you DO get used to it after a while. my only complaint bout the keys are that they are not deep enough. it takes alot od practice to know id youve actually hit it and if you hit it hard enough. it dose not make a nice "click" when you push it. i kind of found that annoying, but it is good for typing in a quiet place likea meeting or classroom. its personal prefrence.

the screen is nice and big with a great backlight. it's touch sensors are good, but it does not support multitouch, and thats a shame.

the battery life sucks at first, but after the RC30 update rolled out and after a few power cycles of the bettery, its gotten better. dont expect more then a day's use out of it after its dead.

the 3G is fun, the wifi works, the GPS is nice, the accelarometers are good, the magnetic compus is fun, the android market place is great as well.

this is all i can think of right now, but feel free to ask me any questions about it.

all of this was typed from my G1.
