Anyone know where I can get info to replace a Dodge Ram 100 p/u rear end, how hard is

it and how expensive? I can go forward cannot reverse when I purchased the truck it did reverse, but it had a grinding sound with no power. I was told to replace the rear end, but no info other then go to a mechanic, I want to learn; and it is a 1988 Dodge Ram Pickup with a 318 engine and automatic trans
