Anyone know the name or author of this book?

It's kind of old, but it's about a dragon that appears to be invisible (because of it's scales). The next victim of the dragon always gets a black mark on them somewhere, that continues to get bigger as their death gets closer. The main character is a man... and that's about all I can remember about it currently.

the cover had a cabin of some sort in the woods, and through the window of it was a big yellow/golden dragon eye
 
is it in a series of books, Davids the main character? there are two other books one dreen and the other red, and all the dragons names start with G? I love those books! but I dont remember the title
