I am trying to figure out some facial pain. It is only on the left side of my face, mostly in the cheek. I went to a physio today, on the advice of my family doctor to see if they had any ideas. The physio said that my C23 had some issues, and he tried to mobilize it. This is the diagnosis he wrote down to show my family doctor:

Upper Cervical dysfunctional congential cervical malformation

Has anyone else had this and did your pain radiate somewhere else??

It's possible that what you are feeling could be dental related or be a symptom of TMJ.
That said there can be a nuraber of other possibilities.

In the tradition of Chinese Medicine there are energetic pathways throughout the body
which can exhibit pain, nurabness, or other sensations - such as heat or cold, etc. for any nuraber of reasons. The points have relationships to the various organs, although even if there is some irabalance going on such as the symptoms above - this doesn't mean there is something wrong with a particular organ - but rather that the pathway itself has become blocked in some way.

If you don't appear to have a dental or jaw related problem - you may want to consider Shiatsu, Trigger Point/Acupressure/Jin Shin Jyutsu, or Acupuncture as an alternative treatment

Hi,

C2 and C3 are farther up in your head area and there is something called Occipital neuraglia which stems from this area, but I am not sure if these nerves affect the cheeks.

There is another thing called trigeminal neuralgia, which my PM said it's possible I might have. This definitely can cause pain & other symptoms in the cheek area. It can also cause problems and pain along the jaw area. I personally get bouts of my right cheek going completely nurab, as If I just got a novacaine injection at the dentist. That is what it feels like.....when I touch my skin there, I cannot feel anything. However, I do not feel any pain in my cheeks or face..I just get this big round area of nurabness over my cheek and part of my other right lips. I've not been able to afford to get my issue checked out yet, but I did tell my PM about it. He's the one who told me about the trigeminal nerve in the head and that it would correspond with where my symptoms are. I also sometimes get shocks in the back of my neck and head, plus what I think now is nerve pain into my fingers. I don't know for sure, but I bet I have nerve compression from something in there.
