hey i recently lost my i530 and bought a i830 off of a friend with no sim, does anyone know the approximate cost to get a new sim and my old number back on the i830 at a nextel retailer?

SIM(Subscriber Identity Module)is for GSM phones that are manufactured for service providers who are members of the GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications is a digital cellular system that uses TDMA, which allows a single frequency to support multiple, simultaneous data channels network). A GSM phone is inoperable w/o a SIM card.
Nextel is not part of the GSM network...check this link: GSM Roaming - United States

The i830 operates on iDEN (Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) uses TMDA technology to provide cell phone voice communication, messaging, digital two-way radio and data transfers.
Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is a digital wireless service that divides a radio frequency into time slots and then allocates the slots to multiple calls, allowing a single frequency to support multiple, simultaneous data channels.
The technologies are not the same and not compatible.
Are you perhaps confusing a SIM with a MMC (multimedia card)?
You might want to let Nextel know that your phone was lost so that they can prevent unauthorized calls on it that I am sure you would not want to be financially liable for. Basically, the way I understand it the phone's serial number becomes blacklisted and no service can be provided to it by any provider. The only way to un-blacklist it is to be the account holder who has the personal account information Nextel would need to do so. A GSM phone won't be blacklisted, but the SIM can be deactivated, and cannot be reactivated. If a person finds or steals a GSM phone and the owner has the phone company deactivate the SIM, the finder or thief would have to set up an account with a service provider to activate a new SIM to get the phone to work.

It was my understanding that SIM cards were only for GSM phones. I stand corrected. No need to get snippy. My intentions are not malevolent.

I understand, my only point was you posted on several different threads that nextel did not use sim and not to be snippy but if you are going to try to make a point several times, you should be sure of your info.
