Earth is a celestial object. Astronomy is just as important as geology and geography. The last big paradigm shift in the geography discipline was the realization of the the importance of understanding the concept of scale. This is true in astronomy and physics as well. When someone can thing and visualize at scales from the subatomic scale of the nucleus of an atom to the cosmic scales of the entire universe, the how the universe works makes a lot more sense when you understand basic physics.
