Anyone go from an R1 to a 1098/1198?

Sorry if this is a repost, I searched. Just really curious. Differences in the bikes? likes/dislikes

Trying to decide whether to buy another R1 or a 1098 or 1198

(after riding for 18 years I was in my 1st accident on 3/14 on my R1, a drunk driver hit me. I'm ok, just wearing a neck brace (2 fractures) for a couple months and sore!)

Anyway, just bike shopping online, and kinda getting frustrated

Thank you!

I know!! If I get another R1 it would be an 08....but I'm REALLY leaning toward a Duc, I know I would need to go out and test ride first, I also wonder how the 848 would compare to a R1?

Had (have) a 07 R1 before I bought the 1098, and the wifey got her 848. Still ride both the R1 and Duc. Similar but different.

I used to think the R1 was a "handler", but I actually now refer to it as my "Cruiser", as it is a more comfortable straight line bike.

Different power curves, obviously with the I-4 vs the L-Twin. Both fast enough for me.

Biggest difference is the steering...fairly heavier on the R1 than on the Ducati. 1098/848 are much "lighter" and quicker.

Bottom line, like em both.

Had an 06 R1 and now have an 1198. Biggest difference, like SJCSBK mentioned, is getting use to the power curve at first....it's aaaaalllll down low as oppose to high revving on the R1. The tank is much thinner and the bars are lower. I liked them both as they are quite different.

Oh, and another huge difference...parts are way more expensive. Have to deal with italian inflated pricing.

So if you guys had to choose just 1 (I know you have both but...)which one would you have? I just dont know which to buy, a low mi 07 or 08 R1(cause I do not like the looks of the new R1) Or a 1098/1198.

thanx again!

Easy call for me. Price (including parts/service) being "no object", it would be the Ducati (either one). R1 isnt bad for the money, though.

If you can swing it $$$$, go for the 848, for sure.

I had an 08 R1 before my 848. I liked it but it's not near as fun as the 848.

The R1 had a lot more power (dyno'd 160 at the rear wheel). But, for some reason I never feel truly comfortable on it.

The Duc handles a lot better (even before I put the Ohlins on it) and while not as much power, it is smoother power all the way up. I don't have to worry so much about juicing it too much when I come out of a corner. In fact, in my track days, I have the opposite problem. I need to get on the gas earlier.

Both are fine bikes, but I prefer the Duc.
