I didn't feel like that for awhile, but in the past 6 months or so I noticed that I was becoming increasingly edgy and emotional, especially around and during my days off the active pills. My boyfriend almost broke up with me, actually, due to my mood swings (although I have to say that his behaviour wasn't always helping - I do think that the diane 35 made me a lot less rational and I wasn't dealing with it well.) I have been off for one week, and it is weird but I must say that I do feel a lot calmer and not depressed like I had been feeling lately. The doctor said that it was likely due to estrogen withdrawal - getting a high dose of it and then suddenly stopping for those 7 days a month. I am not getting any now, though, and I feel better. I just hope that my skin stays nice and clear.

Mydoc said I had mild acne but to me they seemed worse. My skin stayed relatively clear the month after I stopped but it got progressively worse, my skin and hair became oily like before. Anyway, Im glad I'm back on it, the only reason I came off it was because I couldn't be bothered getting my prescription refilled. But now I can, I have my skin to remind me! I don't get any side effects being on Diane. I hope everything works out for you!

I stopped taking it after 2 1/2 years last week. So far so good, some mild headaches but thats all. Just wondering because it worked really well to control my mild pms acne before, and I want to have a back-up plan if I ever start to breakout again. I didn't get many pimples and no cysts, but the ones I did get were leaving red marks. I stopped becasue I don't like the idea of taking hormones long-term, and I was turning into a witch once a month! So did anyone else ever stop it then restart and did you experience any problems doing so?
Thanks!

wow. i totally feel the same way..my mood swings are crazy...
i asked my dermatologist if diane 35 has a higher dose of estrogen than other BC pills and she said no, the only one thats lower is Aleyss (sp?) , and that it is a common misconception about diane being higher.
anyways, not sure if thats relevant...
I need to stop being like this, but im not supposed to go off BC pills because Im on accutane. what should i do!?

hi there,

i went off diane 35 6 months ago and got my first period on sept 1st. the first month or so while i was off it was fine...my skin gradually started breaking out and im now at the point where i want to go back on the pill because i want my good skin back! on my pill packet it says to start taking it on the first day of your period..does anyone know if it is ok to start taking it without a period? or should i wait till i get my next period? i dont know when it will be and i dont know how much longer i can handle the skin problems.

any advice would be great!
thanks =)

Hmm, not sure if it is a higher dose or not...I have heard both as well (one doctor told me that the dosage is higher but the effective dose is similar to the rest - I am in fourth year premed so I should know what he means but it has never seemed clear to me either!) My advice is not to take Alesse...for some it causes acne and other problems because it is higher in androgens. I would remain on the diane for awhile and see how it goes, sometimes it takes your body awhile to adjust. FOr the first 2 years I loved this pill, it was only later that I started to attribute some of my emotional instability to it. If you don't feel better soon, then talk to your doctor and try another pill. My sister took accutane for awhile, and her dermatologist didn't put her on the pill because she wasn't having sex (she had to sign a form promising this). I think most do require you to take it though. I have started taking hempseed oil (for essential fatty aciRAB) and a tonic called essiac that really helps to boost immune functioning and detoxes the liver. I am going to continue this and watch my diet (I eat very healthy fooRAB but I don't restrict myself as much as some on these boarRAB, I just try to eat a very balanced diet). Anyway, hopefully my perioRAB come back and things stay good...I hope you find what works for you and start to feel better soon :)

Diane 35 is a form of birth control (the pill), and is generally very effective in the treatment of female hormonal acne. It is not available in the US.

hi everyone, I have decided to stop Diane35 after probably 10 years, I am scared about the breakouts too and wonder when they will show up... My doc gave me antibiotic called minocycline but I'm nervous to take that too, there are some side effects that sound bad but rare. Has anyone taken Minocycline? When you stopped Diane how long until the breakouts showed up?

Hi, I took a break as well, for about 4 months. My skin is back to what it was before, before I took Diane. I'm about a week into a new pack. The first time I took Diane, it took 2 months before it started to work, I'm interested to know how long it would be this time before my skin improves.

Hi Cory. I have taken Dianne twice. When i came off it, i started breaking out 3 to 4 months afterwarRAB. I'm taking Marvelon (Desogen) now. They say it's the closest thing to Dianne for skin and it's not as risky as Dianne. It only has 30mg of estrogen instead of 35mg, like Dianne. My skin isn't oily and i'm only getting a couple of spots on my chin and back. I'm thinking of trying a different one now, though. I won't tell you why, as i don't want to influence your decision to try it.

Thanks Meowgirl...I don't think I will be restarting but just wanted to have that option in case I do experience a bad breakout. I feel a lot better off, so much less anxious and irritable.
Did your skin stay clear for 4 months, or did you start to get breakouts earlier on and they just got to the point where you decided to go back on again? I never had bad acne, just 2-3 pimples here and there but they left marks. My skin is not oily at all, quite dry actually. I take better care of it now and eat a much better diet than I did before, so I am hoping that will help.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I don't want to take any other pill though, its been one week since I stopped and I feel hormonal, really cranky!

Its been more than one month off now and I have only had one pimple and the moodiness went away after the first week. My first period came right on time as it usually did with Diane, it was not more heavy and I didn't have any extra cramps.

thanks for the advice.
I think i will probably pull myself off of it next month..and use other methoRAB of birth control...
Its been 4 months or so..i dont think much will change now...

Diane made you anxious and irritable? canu explain furthur please? Im on it...and i think its just runing my emotional state...
