...racist towards people of color? Anyone else think the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons were racist?
In the original Flintstones cartoons series of the '60s there were no blacks or people of color, except in in one episode about Boy Scouts that showed black scouts. There was one episode in which the gang learns karate and the sensei was a racist Japanese caricature. In the Aaron Boulder episode the shaffeur was another racist Asian caricature.
There were no blacks or people of color in the original Jetsons series from the '60s. They didn't appear until the '80s series.
There weren't any blacks or people of color in the Yogi Bear cartoons or Quick Draw cartoons from the 50s.
I'm sure there are other examples of racism in Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the '50s and '60s and but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Anyone else notice this?
I'm African-American, BTW.
