It drives me insane! I hear it all the time and I'm 100% sure that truly epic events do not happen all that often.
To Raludac Utera: They may not be misusing it completely but they are definitely exaggerating the meaning. The definition of epic: very imposing or impressive; surpassing the ordinary (especially in size or scale); "an epic voyage"; "of heroic proportions"; "heroic sculpture" - So far, every time that I've seen or heard someone use "epic" recently, the event/item is not nearly as "imposing or impressive" or "surpassing the ordinary" as thir exaggeration. To me, "epic" is the new version of "awesome" and they are both overused and exaggerated.
