Anyone else had/having jaw surgery? Discuss.?

I've been under-going treatment on my teeth, mouth and jaw for about 5 years or so now and am hopefully going to be having my jaw surgery in a few months, though it often gets put off for another few months. I'm 20 now so am very eager to get it over and done with.
I didn't realise until recently that there are so many others who have similar jaw surgery, often because of an under-bite or over-bite or other reasons. I think many who don't know about it assume that we're having it done just to look better but I think for many of us we can have difficulties with eating, talking and just moving our mouths in some ways so it definitely seems helpful.
My main worries are looking too different afterwards and the possibilities of things going wrong, i.e. losing the feeling in my lips and chin for ever, losing nerves, or my nose getting ruined from being stretched for example.
I've heard from a few people who have had it done and they all seem so grateful and pleased with the results and that they went through with it, though I'm sure some would tell a different perspective.
If anyone has had it done or is having jaw surgery, or even knows anyone who has had or is getting it done please discuss your aims for the surgery, what you wanted out of it, your worries and any advice. Thanks very much. All the best to others going through it. I know it's not a life or death situation but I imagine it's still scary for many, so it'd be good to hear from others.
