I tried it in 3 of my Harley's, I don't care for it nearly as much as I do amsoil or mobil one. Both of those make my motors run cooler and quieter, and amsoil is fantastic for extending the life of your motor. Please don't fall for the Harley syn 3 line about one oil for all three holes. It sucks in the tranny!!!

just wonder how it stacks up to other synthetic oils? Myself I use ROCK OIL. By the way bart H.D. has been making its own synthetic oil since 1990 [syn 3 oil] Rock oil is 13 bucks a pint but worth it.
the oil is actually made by Sunoco for H.D. I love Sunoco gas [they have 105 octane!]
the reason I use rock oil is its the oil for Farrari, and lamborghini.if its good enough for a 200,000 exotic car its good enough for my ol panhead!
Bart are you SERIUS? I ride a PANHEAD! Do ya think I go to a DEALERSHIP for ANYTHING? They dont want my ol oil leaking panhead chopper in their parking lot! When my 61 pan was produced H.D, frowned on synthetic oil.{because they didnt sell one]The official line from H.D. was that it was to slippery and would cause flat spots in bearings and tappets. As soon as they came out with Syn 3 they cahnged their story.

I use AeroShell oil in my Harleys. Like you the Harley dealer frowns on my "outdated" bikes. For a company that likes to tout it's "heritage" they are quick to turn their backs on their no longer under warranty bikes.

Your HD Engine has been carefully engineered for a certain oil that is recommended by HD.
When you use a different oil you're saying you know more about engine engineering than the person that engineered it.
HD wants their engines to work and perform to their maximum potential, and the engine was designed for certain tolerances, oil passages, oil pumps, ect for a certain brand and type of motor oil.
PLUS! Its better for good customer relations if you buy the oil from the HD Dealer, plus the dealer will like you better, respect you and be more inclined to help you out when you need help.

Edit: I am talking about the newer HD's, you never stated in your question that you were talking about an old panhead, in those bikes you can put road tar in them and nobody would care.
We are a new generation of HD owners and riders, Doctors, Lawyers and such, we have respect that the people that designed and engineered the bike know more than us about it and we trust what oil we are to use.
