just a general question

even the ones on fleabay seem to be genuine

is it that the take up so far is too small to make it worth the bootleggers getting involved?

when the HD-DVD/Blu Ray markets get larger will bootlegging become a problem or is the technology used going to stop them in their tracks?

IIRC CSS was cracked in 1999.
Although I had been buying dvd's since early 1998,the format had not really been properly launched in the UK until well into 1999,(it was launched then relaunched) and it started to take off with the release of The Matrix

HDCP 1.0 has been cracked. you can already buy separte boxes to remove HDCP or convert it to componant or VGA. you'll have to look hard with such things being illegal.

However HDCP v1.3 is starting to appear on new TV's and will probably be available on players. it's required for 1080P playback too.

I honestly don't know how they expect HDCP to remain unhacked.

The new ACCS or whatever it is, is a new creature with the potential to recover from hacks this time around.

However if internet speeRAB keep getting faster it may just be easier to just release decrypted ISO images on the net rather than realease ripping software that will eventualy stop working with new releases as well as the player the decryption keys were taken from.

I Personaly think DRM measures are pathetic. Make new technology more expensive and prevent fair use. If a customer knows there there then it's defective.

thanks guys :D

so i suppose we will shortly see HD-DVD covers on standard discs being sold at car boots

and so will spread the myth that HD-DVD is no improvement over SD dvd :p

at least fleabay should be a safe place to buy in the immediate future

There will be a different Decryption key for every
High definition DVD released.
So what will inevitably happen is there will be a ripping program similar to DVD-Decrypter available, and the only difference is that you will have to feed in an individual decryption key (obtained from posters on the web) into the ripping program.
It might take a while for hackers to generate those decryption keys, remember it has to be done for every HD-DVD released.
