Okay, so I love drawing and colouring. What I'm good at is drawing cartoon characters. And no, I can't draw them without looking at them but NOT printing them; just putting the picture I want to draw in front of me. I don't know, but I'm not sure if this is talent.. I copy them and they look not exactly the same, but similar. Remember, I'm not putting the picture under the paper and "printing" it; I'm just putting the picture of the thing I want to draw in front of me. Same thing in colouring them, when doing the shadows. They end up looking good, but unoriginal.( and the reason I draw this way is because I can't come up with what I want to draw; or even if I have an idea of what i want to draw, I'm just unable to draw it without looking at something for "reference") I used to draw characters from the cartoons I watch (when I was younger). Drawing was like a real hobby for me, and something that's practiced often. But then, I got depressed and I stopped doing everything; I neglected my drawing practices and threw all my old drawings away. Now, I am feeling a little better, and I'm regretting that I once stopped drawing BECAUSE now even when I look at something and draw it, it ends up - not bad- but not as good as it used to end up when I was younger..
First question: do you think that the strategy of drawing that i had used (and still use) is right?
Second question: whether it's talent or not, after recovering from my depression, do you think it is possible that my drawing skills can be regained and improved by drawing randomly without looking at something even if it ends up looking bad? Do you think it improves with continuous practice? I tried to draw so much, but all I draw is a complete mess now, and I keep running out of patience that I can't stand myself. I feel like a failure. I feel like I have no talents at all; because drawing is the only thing that I'm kind of good at.

And, if you have any advice regarding what I just said, it'd be wonderful.

Oh, and if you know any websites that help beginners improve their drawing skills it'd be very appreciated if you put it in your answer.

Thank you
