anybody know anything about Ashoka's rock edicts?

i need to answer these questions about it:

How would you describe Ashoka's 'philosophy' of state?

How did Ashoka change state policies and practices?

What practical reasons might he have adopted these policies? Did he entirely abandon the use of harsher measures?

ive got an idea of the answers for these i just wanted to know what other people think.
