private businesses...? The government deciding if a company is taking too big risks and being able to liquidate it.
The government being able to interfere far more with private contracts.
The government being able to limit pay for business execs.
Seems pretty messed up to me. This plan sets things up for government abuse of power with no slippery slope needed, this move would be a jump off a cliff. Maybe instead, because they were the ones that pushed the behavior of Fannie and Freddie which caused all this in the first place, private businesses should be able to fire politicians on the spot if they think they are doing something very risky, and change legislation if they see fit, and renegotiate politicians' salaries and limit how much money they can spend on their campaigns. Somehow I think this wouldn't fly.
Government has difficulty doing the jobs within its constitutional authority. Why would it not fail the same way if it were to handle businesses in a way that moves closer to what communism is which is not within it's power (the same way communists did)? Did China not move toward capitalism as its economy came out of the gutter and exploded?

I actually used to fear that Obama would get shot giving one of his speeches. If he lets Geithner get his way, if congress does before him, then I wouldn't care less. He'd deserve it for being a traitor to this country. Maybe some of you Obamaholics out there will stand blindly by your bro no matter what he does, ironically as you derided conservatives for, according to your perception, standing by Bush the same way you do now with B.O.. Bush wasn't perfect, but will look dam n close to it if the Obama administration gets its way. I would hope Obama wouldn't let this happen, but he hasn't fired this weasily looking SOB yet, so he must agree with him. I hope people realize the gravity of what is going on here. The stimulus efforts were arguably worth trying, but this crosses the line by a few thousand miles. I know people are scared and enraged, but those are the exact kinds of emotions these opportunists jump on to pass unfair laws. Capitalism isn't perfect, it doesn't mean we go and throw it out the window like there are many other models for an economy out there that would work better for us to choose from. Examples like Madoff happened, because of sound laws that are already in place that just weren't enforced. The economy as a whole is where it is, because of government policies, so if anything, we should be regulating them more. The same babies that whined about having their phones tapped if they were to call Iraq, like it would lead to us all being put into work camps by the US govt., are the same ones that are just fine with this real threat that is far more likely to do harm far beyond the former policy ever could. The contradiction is because even though these people like to say they think for themselves, all they are really capable of doing is following their party's leaders like leming's off a cliff when they are clearly putting us all in danger.
