Any way to calm a dog scared of storms/rain?

My beagle is terrified of storms and rain. We've tried calming supplements, crating her, petting her, ignoring her, playing with her.. she's just a mess. She'll sit in the corner shaking violently and panting like nuts. I see conflicting reports online (ignore them, comfort them, crate them) We've tried it all. My other dog has no fear of the storms.. she barks at thunder.. LOL

i have always had my dog live in house with me
when a storm comes i just talk to them and tell them what is going on
never had a dog really scared of anything.

my daughter says her dog is scared of storms
when she stays here, i do the same as with other dogs. i just talk to her and let her hide or stay and listen.
 
It wouldn't be my first choice but your vet can prescribe anti-anxiety medication for your pets. It seems like you have tried everything else so it may be worth a shot. My friend was given a prescription of xanax, the same kind she takes for her own anxiety, lol.
 
I heard that the worst thing to do is comfort them, because that is saying that its ok for them to be scared, and that you like the behavior that they are showing. If you really have tried everything, there are some pill that you can get from your vet. They are called Acepromazine, and it helps calm the dog down. My vet also said that you can use Benadryl(sp), but it is less affective and doesn't calm them down as much. Talk to your vet about the right dose for your dog.
 
My dog is the same... She ushally goes behind the couch. Maybe get something she can get under or behind besides a crate. Mybe pull your couch out a bit so she can sit in between there. Works with my dog and my gramma's cat.
 
My dog is scared to death of fireworks. I have tried everything..Calming Pills did nothing.
4 th of July is miserable as she won't even go outside to the bathroom ( plus they shoot fireworks off 3 and 4 days after the 4th of July.) They sell THUNDERSHIRTS that fit snuggly on the dog and for some reason it has a calming effect on the dog. They are about 35.00 ..more for a larger dog, but people have said they work wonders. I am going to get one before the 4th and try it out.
