I got a male betta fish not to long ago. And he loves his 5.5 gallon tank. I havent got any silk plants yet, because i havent had time to go to petsmart. But i would like to get something that he could play with or push around or somthing to keep him entertained. He loves just to swim around but what else can i do for him.

Also i havent decorated his tank yet other than the smooth marbles that you get from the petsmart. I am for sure getting a green silk plant and a pink silk plant but what other decor can i put in that wont hurt his fins

ps. i havent named him yet: He has a whitish silver redish with a slight purple tint in certian light and he has a red and purple nose. And his tails are red where they connect to his body but then get white with red spots (looks amazing) So what should i call him?

Try live plants. They're better for fish. How many watts is your light? If it is low light (1-2 watts per gallon), than I would try simple plants like cryptocorynes, anubias, java fern, and java moss. If you have anything more than that, you could try adding riccia, a floating plant. Bettas particularily like it for building bubblenests. While I woudn't suggest getting plants from PetSmart (except for java fern), many sellers have high quality plants for lower prices on ebay. Java fern and Anubias shouldn't be planted in the gravel, they should be attached to a rock or driftwood. Your betta seems very nice, although I can't think of a name right now, I can imagine a beautiful tankw ith your betta swimming in an aquatic garden.

as Fishfan said, you can get real life plants. If you are not into that, my Bettas have a cave-like thing to hide in, and the little one loves the bubbles that his filter creates. You can try to get a bubbler, though some bettas will not like these in the least (E.I. My second betta hates any current made in the tank) also some people say that they have put a ping-pong ball in the tank, so that the fish can push it around *granted the fish was so bored it was biting its fins off* but for the most part, most fish just swim around, If your take is filtered and cycled, you could always try putting 5-6 neon tetras in there. Your betta shouldn't attack them, since most bettas get along just fine as long as the fish are smaller and not brightly colored or have a long tail.

Good luck

my beta LOVES long seaweed type plants it likes to swim through it and hide in it. He usually just likes plants that have alot of leaves and vines coming off. idk my beta seems happy with the plants i put in there seeing as he has already started on a bubble nest. whats everyone have against petsmart? just get something that is big that you would love to swim in if you were a fish. i did not know you could get toys for betas. my beta doesn't seem to like the current the filter makes so he stayes to one side of the fish tank. as for a name. . . idk i named mine pluto cause he is really blue maybe like boney, tide, surf, skuttle, carmine, you could look up other names for red or white or silver or whatever. =] hope i helped

a betta garden there good for bettas i have 6 female bettas in a 5.5 gallon tank and they like to hang around it and lay on there sides and dont ever put a male with a female or male with male because the males fight and the females don't but you can put a male and a female betta in a spawning tank hope this helps. oh i almost forgot to tell you to name him RAINBOW!
