any tips on how to keep my hair color from fading and what hair dyes are best ???

okay so my hair is like naturally light brown and about 3 weeks ago i dyed it a very dark brown, i liked it a lot but then it faded pretty much back to its normal color, im going to dye it again this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on what dye to use or how to keep it from fading again ? should i use an even darker color or keep it in longer ??
oh yea it faded after like 3 days too.
