This is the first time I have posted. I didn't think any of the subjects covered my exact problem.

It has been a week now since I had surgery to remove a abscess from the back of my neck along with a good part of my tissue around it.
The hole left is now onl 4.5 inches x 2.2inches x 1.5 inches deep. I have had to take antibiotics and percocet. I rarely take percocet because it seems to only make me feel dim witted and if the pain is gone I seem to hurt myself more.

The Sunday before I had an emergency surgery to remove the 3cm abscess from the back of my neck I had sweats. So badly in fact that i drenched my clothes durring church.

Now a week after surgery I am feeling dizzy and having bad sweats throughout the day. I don't have a fever and my bloodpressure and heart rate are fine.

I first read that vicodine could cause sweats but I started the sweats before i visited the ER initially.

The abscess was located directly under the skull by the first vertibra of the neck. Could the infection I had with the abscess be causing this? Even though I have been on 3 types of antibiotics as well as IV antibiotics before, durring and after surgery?

Or is there something else like a vitamin or food I am lacking that could cause the symtoms?

Any ideas are appreciated.

It's very possible an infection could cause dizziness and sweats.

At your follow up doctor appointment, definately speak to your doc about this. You may even need to see your doctor before if this continues.

You also could be having some allergic reaction also.

Wish you well

are you having ANY sensitivity to light at all? or actual headache? the mere fact that this area of what was an abscess appears to be very close to the spinal cloumn/cord area too, i would be calling your surgeon for what you really need to do next. also find out if when they removed this if they could have possibly even nicked the dura(or even had to go within it to any degree?)? this just can allow bacteria into where it should not be and casue other complications too. when dealing with these two areas(brain and spinal) you just always NEED to make certain that infection is not a reason for symptoms to be continueing in you.

but i would be calling your surgeon with ANY problems at all that you are just having. they will let you know what, if any next steps may need to be taken here. this could just possibly be the 'normal' course for this type of surgical procedure or may not be, ya know? this is why keeping your surgeons office in this loop is so important right now. you may need even stronger anti Bs depending upon what is actually going on in there right now.

with that sweating? was this being caused by pain or was this just 'there" thruout this whole pre op and post op process? did they actually even do any type of follow up MRI or at least a CT just to see that area post op? if this does not get better i would not hesitate to simply go to your local ER to be checked out with an MRI at the very least. or call the surgeon and find out if this may be needed right now. it would be the best and quickest way of actually at least somewhat 'visualizing' the surgical area and see if anything has developed there, like even a pocket of fliud which is always possible with truama to the body, which ANY surgical procedure just 'is' to our bodies. i would NOT wait til monday to call your surgeon tho. calling now before the weekend realy does need to be done cuz once you hit that weekend, you wont be able to actually count on certain types of help like you can during the workweek, ya know?

hopefully nothing is seriously wrong, but DO call your surgeons office today. i just cannotr see actual sweating AND feeling dizzy at this point as truely being 'normal'? not this far out anyways. do they actually even know just what was the real causes of that abscess to begin with? please keep us posted, but make that phone call at the very least TODAY.
