Any suggestions on overnight camping outside of Phoenix?

I'm talking about somewhere a little secluded (but in a safe area) with minimal to no fee that I can just drive out with my friends, set up a tent and fire, and just kick it under the stars for a night, drinking n' making s'mores... Nothing spectacular, but beautiful scenery and trees would be nice, since I am not making a weekend of it. Just an overnight getaway that wouldn't even last 24 hours. Preferably not too far outside of Phoenix (East Valley area to be specific).
