Any restrictions and or laws to handing out leaflets?

Are there any restrictions or laws on handing out leaflets?
Give circumstances-if applicable.

I know you can place them in newspaper boxes, but not inside mail boxes. As far as I know, you may leave fliers on doors. I used to pass them out for an old job and I would roll them and stick them through the screen door handles or between the door frames and doorknobs.
