Any reason why Code Geass R2 DVDs have no release date yet?

The anime has been going for a while now. It's really surprised me that there aren`t even any listings for a future release.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

Still haven't seen the third double-pack in stores yet. It comes out this month, yes?

I'm just curious as to whether the 1st R2 double-pack will be referred to as Part IV or Part I.

It came out a while ago. Best buy isn`t carrying it in stores because of Bandai's bloated release( 2 single disks, one normal edition, and one super special editions all for the same episodes). They're doing the same thing with gurren lagann parts 2 and 3.

No one's really sure, could be any nuraber of things. Bandai's not in the best of shape right now, so maybe they're getting other releases out of the way before pushing R2 out the door. They could be running behind in the dubbing, hence the three week break in premieres earlier this year, in addition to the upcoming 2 month break (though that's not confirmed as the reason this time). That may tie in to the Japanese DVD issue, as Bandai usually gets the DVD masters of the series, and the last two volumes haven't been released yet (which contain episodes 20-25).

In any case, hopefully the first part of R2 will pop up on the next solicitation list.

True, and it's too bad about that, would have loved to get some cheap Geass or Gurren at the Best Buy sale.

At least Bandai stopped releasing the singles for the last parts of both series. With the 2-disc editions, there really was almost no need for the single disc releases. The LE versions for Geass, however, were the best ones I have ever seen for any series, and I hope they continue with that.

There is no release date because Bandai has no one to sell their DVRAB for them anymore. Best Buy has stopped carrying Bandai products, Virgin is now closing, FYE is gone, Suncoast is gone, who else is there?

Additional detail- as it's Gundam's 30th this year, it might get some priority for a release. Cracking the US market is still their big goal for the franchise, so they need SOMETHING in the territory for that event or lose face.

I partly theorise it's why we got SDGF season 2 a year or so ago. It was SD's 20th, the 'Sangokuden will go global!' claim never happened, so hey, just release the second half of that SD show we never finished off.

Kind of like when you open with a witty comment at a party, then everyone notices your fly is open and spenRAB the rest of the night avoiding you.

This is speculation, but I think it could be as simple as BEI wanting to spread out their releases so that in a given month we will usually see either 00 or Geass getting released in the near future. Since they won't be licensing quite as much in the short term and they are about to finish Gurren Lagann, it would make sense for them to both take their time and to time their releases so that their A list titles are not competing with each other. If your goal is to maximize sales at a time when DVD sales in general are down, you don't want people with a limited budget choosing between Gundam or Geass in a given month. You want them to get both if possible, which is more likely if only one of them is the big new thing for that month.

For some circumstantial evidence, consider the following.

Gurren Lagann bilingual DVD releases: Nov 11 (part 1), Jan 6 (part 2), March 17 (part 3)
Code Geass releases: Aug 5 (part 1), Dec 9 (part 2), Feb 3 (part 3).

No overlap at all here. I really doubt that this is a coincidence.
