it's about a promise i made to my recent ex to wear my seat belt.
Seatbelt
The tan strap is a binding promise
Binds me to my seat
Binds me to memories of her
Spread across my body like she used to be
Click
The sound rings through my head like her voice
Click
A yawn,
Dainty cough,
Or her sweet whispers
I turn to return her sentiments
Only to face my passenger seat
Empty, like me without her
Like a ghost
Dragging the tan straps behind me like chains
Haunting myself with the unsettling sound
Click
i was told that the title was a turn off, and made readers think of drivers ed class. any suggestions for a new one? without the word seatbelt though i think the poem becomes confusing.
