Good evening, everyone...I am preparing to contact my doctor this week and was wondering about other muscle relaxers. I have now tried Flexeril and Soma, and neither one give me much relief, whenever I am experiencing severe muscle spasms. Do you all have any other ideas, as far as muscle relaxers go? Thank you all, in advance. I hope everyone had a "pain-free" weekend! It went by so fast!

You might ask about skelaxon. It is similar to Flexeril but has fewer side effects. You can take it during the day and not feel so "fuzzy-headed." I am not sure how well it works.:(

I take Zanaflex Capsules 4mg. they made me pretty sleepy at first but not anymore. Right after surgery I was given baclofen and took it for awhile but I felt awful while i was taking that so can't say I'd recommend that one. Hope that info is helpful. Take Care, Dee

Rather than switching muscle relaxers I'm thinking you need to add a pain medicine to the relaxers as they are not pain relievers.

Thank you all for the replies! I will be sure to talk to my doctor about a different muscle relaxer, such as the branRAB that you all have mentioned. Thanks, again.

Thank you for the response, Ann...I wanted to say that I do take pain medication(s) daily, which are Tramadol 50 mg tablets (2-twice daily, which is 200 mgs daily) and Hydrocodone 5/500 (1) 3 times daily (which my physician told me to take 2 tablets 3 times daily, whenever I have severe spasms). Thanks, again!

Ive tried Flexeril and Skelaxin, though neither worked for me. But it's best if one doesnt work, to try another. You never know which one might do the job. I told my most recent PM id rather not have any muscle relaxers b/c moist heat seems to work better for me. It doesnt get rid of them either, but it soothes the areas. Sometimes my spasms have been so incapacitating, absolutely nothing would help.

Just thought I would add that I have found with soma that I have to take it consistently in order to have relief from it. Robaxin is another good muscle relaxer and I like it because it does not make me as tired. There are two dosage levels with the robaxin. Flexeril makes me fill drugged the next day.

Hi

When i have a real bad flare up i use Diazepam.
Its the only thing that helps me in my hour of need.

Best wishes

My new PM said that Flexeril isn't that good for muscle spasms. I take it right now and it does nothing for mine but we are trying to find what works for me and when something doesn't, I go back to the Flexeril until the next one starts. (it does work for other stuff) I just had injections so he wants to wait a few weeks to see if the injections work or not. If they do, he will know it wasn't from the meRAB etc. Recently we tried Lyrica which didn't work very well for me. Actually, it worked, but my vision was so blurry and I itched all over for the entire time I was on it. Next we will try Neurotin. Topomax is often used but my mother had a very ugly reaction to it so I won't even attempt it. So, hopefully this will give you at least a few more names. I hope you find one that works well for you!

Sincerely,
Lisa

Thank you all for the personal experiences with the muscle relaxers. I just didn't realize there were so many others to try. It does make me feel better knowing that there are still plenty others that could eventually give me some relief. Thanks, again.

Hey there -- Flexeril helped me a lot with the spasms but I just had to stop taking it because it made me so out of it. All of these drugs have their benefits and side effects. Now I am thinking of asking if I should take the flexeril at night only. I hope you find something that works for you.
